Careers in business tend to be organic rather than structural.  People can therefore find themselves in senior positions, without having had opportunities to develop some of the key skills necessary to perform exceptionally.  Being promoted can make people feel isolated and no longer able to ask for guidance and objective appraisal.

Senior Management Forums (SMFs) allow senior managers to appraise their core skills in an objective light.  They provide a confidential, yet challenging environment, in which managers consider together their function within their organisation, and opportunities for their own personal development.  During SMFs, clients find that the difficulties they face are not unique to them, but are shared by colleagues in other management positions.

“As Operations Director of a growing, medium-sized business, with four different operating divisions, I have always tried to encourage my directors and senior managers to exploit synergies between their divisions, rather than see the world from the perspective of their own.  Michèle’s Senior Management Forum enabled my management team to consider their role within the business, and in doing so, the nature of other divisions’ work.  Not only did this address the problems I had identified, but developed the vision for where my management team wanted to take the business over the next three years.”  Laura Bone, Director, Business To Business Exhibitions Ltd.

SMFs also facilitate the sharing of best practice between colleagues and provide an opportunity to discuss company policy, philosophy and culture.  They allow managers to bring real-life issues forward for resolution within the group.  Clients find that SMFs highlight both strengths on which to build, and organisational dysfunctions which need to be addressed.

"Michèle’s Professional Development Forum made a big impact on our business at a time when we really needed it – and it was a pleasure to work with her."  Tom Ogilvie, Divisional Director, Brett Martin Daylight Savings

SMFs comprise approximately six senior managers, meeting every month or bi-monthly. The sessions broaden members’ tolerance and awareness of issues that confront colleagues in other areas of their business and thereby improve the functioning of the entire organisation.
